The Katie At The Bat Team’s philosophy is tied to providing a seamless offering of programming – throughout the school year, into the summer and over a period of years. Each year the organization provides summer camp opportunities in beautiful suburban settings in which participants benefit from a combination of athletic, academic, cultural and social interaction experiences. The Katie At The Bat Team is proud to provide 150-175 weeks of camp each summer.

Basketball and Academic Camp
Thanks to an ongoing partnership with Friends’ Central School in Wynnewood Pennsylvania, the Katie At The Bat Team is able to send approximately 25 inner-city children to four weeks of Basketball and Academic camp at the esteemed institution and beautiful campus of Friends’ Central School. Here our students not only enjoy the basketball skills and competition each day as well as swimming and other recreational activities. They also enjoy the classroom experience in a relaxed and supportive setting on the private school campus. This is a tremendous opportunity and a partnership in which all parties benefit.
Tennis Camp
Tennis Camp takes place in a beautiful park setting in Upper Merion, Pennsylvania. Students board our Katie At The Bat Team van each morning and arrive with the tennis rackets provided via USTA Serves. Children enjoy the relaxed environment and the small group and individualized instruction. Our inner-city kids are thrilled on the occasion when they see wildlife such as deer, running past the courts in the remote location.
In 2011 we added book club to the daily tennis camp schedule. Each afternoon, campers spend a 45 minute period relaxing with a book – often on a blanket under a tree or sitting at a picnic table. Campers write in their reading journals and share their entries with each other as well as volunteers and camp staff.
Camp Katie
Camp Katie is a special week in which the focus in not on competitive sports but rather on building bonds, cultural exposure and self esteem. It is a week that encompasses and enhances the breadth of The Katie At The Bat Team mission and philosophy. The home base for Camp Katie is our Katie At The Bat suburban Narberth location but the activities range from art projects, team-building exercises, self-esteem and communication workshops, cooking classes, and scavenger hunts. Swimming, reading, and an occasional ice cream cone are included in the relaxed schedule. Nature hikes, museum visits, outdoor concerts, movement classes and just plain relaxation and fun are all included in the Camp Katie experience.
Back to School Readiness
2011 marks the beginning of our back to school readiness sessions. Working with our Katie At The Bat kids in the waning days of summer, the aim is to best prepare students to return to school ready and eager for success.
