While The Katie At The Bat Team starts with sports, our primary concern is success in life and character development. Therefore all of our programs have strong elements of humanity, leadership training and social skills built into the curriculum.
Basketball sessions have themes of the month which include areas such as: kindness, citizenship, patience and sportsmanship. These qualities are reinforced both in a formal and informal way. Communication between coaches and players as well as family members often take place between sessions, emphasizing caring and concern for our players.
Throughout the year we work on leadership and positive social interactions which accompany these important themes.
Tennis provides a unique opportunity to teach honor and etiquette through exposing students to the culture of the game. The tennis code of conduct is presented as a strong theme, teaching respect and honesty during on-the-court sessions as well as in the classroom. Role models such as Arthur Ashe and Billie Jean King provide for a favorite unit for the young players.
The children in our programs feel part of a “Team”. In this all-encompassing approach we feel we have our greatest opportunity to impact character development and social skills in the most lasting and meaningful way.
